Hi,
On the way back home from the ever wonderful Trappist fests in Niel, we visited this place for lunch................and beers.
24 Rodendries - Waasmunster
Located at an intersection, opposite to the chapel of saint-Antonius abt.
Trappistenhuis Den Herberg is the name, referring to the vast offering of Trappist beers.
They are Orval ambassador, as the wall nicely witnesses.
They are La Trappe amabassodor as well!
Quite a cosy environment with a rustic feeling of old times. Cosy, warming ancient wood stove in the middle of the place. Makes it all that more enjoyable.
The menu is written on the big chalkboard, located on top of the rustic bar that has about 6 quality beers on tap.
This place is run by Leen and Peter. Peter, who we see here inside the picture. Such a friendly bartender There's always a smile
Let's start with something delicious from tap!
Chimay triple for Katrien and a "winy" Rodenbach vintage for Filip.
It's nice to see that Rodenbach vintage is still available from tap these days. Always a great decision by Palm, and a great treat too.
This bar is specialized in Trappist beers, as you've already seen, but also alot of Old Gueuzes are available.
After asking, Peter told me that he has more than 200 different beers on offer. That's quite alot!
And suddenly this copper growler showed up
Time for a free taste!
Hoeray
A wonderful blend of Lambic from Oud Beersel (Boon brewed), and flavored with rose petals (!!)
Such a flowery perfumy beer! It's not that sour really. Quite mellow....and highly refreshing! TOP!
Let us end with more style.
The mixed platter was fabulous. Contains cheese from Chimay, Italian cured meat, chorizo sausage, pickled onions and gherkins, and ... last but not least, their grilled homemade meatloaf, which had a very tasty cumin flavor. Excellent quality and above all, xtremely tasty!
There is much more food available, and it seems their "spaghetti al ragu" was ordered ALOT that noon. BIG portions too. Wow, that looked great, but that'll be for another time as we weren't that hungry, due to the massive breakfast we had at the Tulip Inn hotel in Antwerp, which I can really recommend.
Peter and Leen are Italy lovers, and that can be experienced through the food they offer.
I can highly recommend this place to pay it a beery Burgundian visit.
